Where the numbers come from
How the price is worked out
  1. The world price of one troy ounce of gold in US dollars is taken each business day from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, which publishes it daily.
  2. It is converted to Indian rupee at the official exchange rate of the same day (European Central Bank).
  3. Dividing by 31.1035 gives the price of one gram of pure (24K) gold.
  4. Other karats are worked out by purity: 18 is 18/24 of the 24K price.
